Brick House - The Commodores (1977)

"Brick House" was a funk/disco song from The Commodores' 1977 album "Commodores" and is one of their most popular songs. The single peaked at #5 in the U.S. Hot 100 and #4 in the U.S. R&B chart. With Walter Orange's squeaking/growling voice on the lead, and Ronald LaPread's roundtone bassline, this cut has become a popular sex anthem and party favorite worldwide. The popularity and chart success of "Brick House" helped propel the group into the spotlight as a premier R&B act. The Commodores were an American funk/soul band of the 1970s and 1980s. The members of the group -- Lionel B. Richie Jr. (vocals, saxophone, drums and piano), Thomas McClary (lead guitar), Milan Williams (keyboards, trombone, rhythm guitar), William 'WAK' King (trumpet, rhythm guitar, synthesizer), Ronald LaPread (bass guitar, trumpet), and Walter Orange (vocals, drums) -- met as freshmen at Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) in 1968. They signed with Motown Records in November 1972, having first caught the public eye opening for The Jackson 5 while on tour. The Commodores have sold over 75 million records worldwide to date.
