"Superstar" written in 1969 by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell was recorded by the Carpenters for their LP, Carpenters. It was released a single on August 12, 1971 and reached number 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening and number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts. The album is available on CD and the song can also be found on the Essential Collection (1965-1997) and the Carpenters Gold Greatest Hits box sets all on A&M. With Richard's fine arrangement featuring oboe, horns, and strings and Karen's haunting, emotional vocal, which was recorded in just one take, the Carpenters made this song their very own.
