Gibbons The Lord of Salisbury His Pavan and Galliard

Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) was a composer and a member of the school of Virginalists from the Renaissance period. This piece is a common pairing of two stylised dances: the stately Pavan in traditional cut time (two whole notes per "bar") followed by the more lively Galliard in triple metre and irregular and uneven phrasing. The Lord of Salisbury His Pavan and Galliard is one of the few extant complete keyboard pieces.
