［HD］神奈川県・日向薬師のヒガンバナ Lycoris radiata (red spider lily) in Hinata

撮影2013年9月27日　神奈川県も伊勢原市にある日向薬師のヒガンバナ。「かながわの花の名所100選」の一つが、日向薬師に守られたこの地区は昔からヒガンバナの自生地で「ヒガンバナの里」として知られ、秋の収穫の時を迎えた田のあぜや野辺のあちこちに真紅の彼岸花が咲き始め、黄金色に実った稲穂とのコントラストが素晴らしい景色を魅せる。谷戸の棚田やそのあぜ道のあちらこちらでは、数多くの彼岸花が見らる。周辺では農作業をしているので、耕作地に入らず、あぜを踏み荒らさないよう気をつけたい。

This is lycoris radiata belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family of plants and is sometimes known as the red spider lily.
Originally from China, it was introduced into Japan and from there to the United States and elsewhere.
In Japan the lycoris radiata signals the arrival of fall. Many Buddhist will use it to celebrate the arrival of fall with a ceremony at the tomb of one of their ancestors. They plant them on graves because it shows a tribute to the dead.
Lycoris radiata flowers in synchrony with the ripening of rice, making a wonderful display. Earthen berms around rice patties are the most common habitat for this species in Japan.
