Drum Beat Comes In @ 1:18 - This instrumental song was written after Matt started playing with the crazy sounds on the keyboard. He got into some of the really airy and "atmospheric" synth sounds, and it really made me want to throw down a "drum n bass" groove over the top of it with heavy emphasis on snare ghost notes, bass punches and some cool rhythms. Then I turned to Daniel and Tim on guitar and asked them if they could put some cool guitar over it, and they really did a great job of writing some riffs and melodies that fit that atmospheric "airy" feel but also added some nice melodic touches. Since the song was already very groove driven and a lot of focus was on the beat from the drums, when I moved from the hats to the ride and they moved to a minor chord progression, we put in the solos that moved around the room. All in all I think it's a really cool song, and definitely something to chill and listen to.
The name is of course "Atmospheric" for the sound of the piece, but "Frisson" because the word frisson means: "A sudden passing sensation of excitement, or a shudder of emotion or thrill." Special Thanks to Wesley Bruner (Bass) for that vocabulary lesson during rehearsal.
